Pigmentation Correction

Uneven pigmentation of the skin can be caused from a variety of factors, including age, sun exposure, and genetics.  At New England Reconstructive & Aesthetic Surgery, we are dedicated to creating a customized skincare regimen based upon your needs.

Seborrheic keratoses (SKs) are benign skin lesions that form in areas of skin trauma and sun exposure.  They appear to be waxy, stuck-on lesions.  Eskata is a highly concentrated hydrogen peroxide which helps to remove raised seborrheic keratoses.   It is a quick in office procedure with minimal to no down-time.  Results occur in 2-3 weeks.  Larger or flat SKs can be removed by surgical shaving, which is also performed in our office.

Solar lentigo are benign flat pigmented areas caused by sun exposure, skin type, and genetics.  CryoCorrect is a cold CO2 application which helps to freeze the top layer of skin, effectively removing the solar lentigo.  Results can be seen in 2-3 weeks.  For patients with more extensive solar lentigo, overall skin pigmentation correction can be found through the use of retinoids and hydroquinone or non-hydroquinone brightening creams.  The addition of a facial peel or Fraxel laser helps to speed the removal of superficial pigmentation and create a more even skin tone and texture.

Chemical Peel

Chemical peels are used to help rejuvenate the appearance of the skin.  Although all peels remove dead skin cells, the strength of the peel (as well as expected downtime) can vary widely.  When used as part of an overall skincare regimen, peels provide stimulation for skin regrowth, improved overall skin color and texture, and a more youthful appearance.  A peel can also help to reduce acne breakouts and minimize clogged pores.

Laser

Fraxel Dual is a CO2 laser with two treatment modes.  It stimulates both the superficial and deeper layers of the skin to undergo new collagen growth.  This reduces the appearance of fine wrinkles, as well as improves the overall skin color and texture.  It can also reduce the appearance of acne scars.  Results are long-lasting with good skin care maintenance and sun protection.  Most people have skin redness and flaking for up to one week.  In New England, the fall, winter and spring are excellent seasons to undergo laser treatment.

Vbeam Perfecta is a pulsed dye laser that targets vascular and pigmented lesions.  It can be used in conjunction with Fraxel to improve the appearance of skin with Rosacea.
